KATRILLI - Finnish Folk Dancing in Switzerland

Our Finnish folk dancing group KATRILLI was founded in 1976 in Basel as a subgroup of the Swiss Society of Friends of Finland and it is a member of the Finnish Folklore Association. Presently KATRILLI has about 20 dancers, mostly Finnish women living in Basel and the surrounding region. Through the weekly rehearsals conducted by Maija Egli we can also practise our mother-tongue and keep our Finnish tradition alive in Central Europe.

In addition to this social aspect, KATRILLI enjoys making Finnish folk dancing known to others, so we have put together a programme of traditional Finnish folk dances representing the dance heritage of the 19th century. When performing we wear colorful national costumes from various districts of Finland.

Through the years we have performed at different festivities in Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, UK, Scandinavia and even in Florida and Hawaii. We would like to continue to dance in different countries besides Switzerland. Meeting other dance groups has always been very interesting and has given us a lot.

If you would like to join us as a dancer or to book KATRILLI for an event, please do not hesitate to contact us.
